This means that for 1 week a month, you won’t take any pills and start your next pack after the 7 days break. The second difference is hormonal dosage. While all combination pills contain the hormones estrogen and progestin, they have different dosage levels. STI testing at a glance
Sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections that are typically passed from person to person through sexual contact. There are approximately 14,000 people living with STIs in Singapore each year.
What are STIs?
I don't have symptoms, should I get tested?
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections that are passed between partners during sexual activity. You can contract an STI through unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has an STI.
Yes, many STIs produce no signs or symptoms (are asymptomatic). Even if you're not experiencing symptoms, you still can pass the infection to your sex partners. Hence, it's important to use protection, such as a condom, during sex and get tested regularly to know your status.
What happens if an STI is left untreated?
How frequently should I get tested?
While many STIs may remain asymptomatic, if left undetected and untreated, they can have serious long-term, and even life-threatening consequences. The sooner you're diagnosed, the sooner you can start treatment. Testing is also important for the safety of you and your partners.
It is recommended that active adults get tested at least once a year, even when practicing safe sex regularly. If you are sexually active with multiple partners, have unprotected sex, or suspect a partner may have an STI due to visible symptoms, you might want to consider getting tested more regularly.

The HIV tests we offer at Ease are 4th generation HIV tests that test for IgG antibodies and p24 antigen. These determine a patient’s HIV status by testing for the presence or absence of HIV antibodies (Immunoglobulin G) and p24 viral antigens. p24 antigens are a component of the HIV virus, and the body will produce HIV antibodies (IgG) in response to the presence of the p24 antigens. If properly conducted after the window period, the test is able to determine HIV infection with high accuracy and reliability.
Following the test results, you will be able to connect with and discuss your results and other concerns with our doctors at no additional cost.

With perfect use, the pill is 99% effective. This is much higher than condoms and other forms of birth control. The more regularly you take your pills, the more effective they will be. However, because many people don’t use the pill perfectly (e.g. missing their pill), it can end up being around 91% effective.
This is why we strongly recommend that you do your best to use to take your pill consistently, and in the manner prescribed by your medical provider.
You can find out some tips and tricks to help you take your pill consistently by visiting this blog post.
There are two main differences among different brands of pills. The first is the number of pills per pack. Some pills contain only 21 active pills. This means that for 1 week a month, you won’t take any pills and start your next pack after the 7 days break. Other brands provide 28 pills (24 active pills and 4 placebo pills) which means you will take 1 pill every day of the month.
The second difference is hormonal dosage. While all combination pills contain the hormones estrogen and progestin, they have different dosage levels. Which dosage is best for you depends on your health history and your preferences e.g. if you want to skip your periods or not). We recommend first time users to sign up for a teleconsultation with one of our doctors as they will be able to help you find a brand that works for you.
While the HIV blood tests that our lab partner performs has high accuracy, a negative test result does not always indicate non-infection as the window period (time between HIV infection and when a test can actually detect it) for HIV differs from person to person. If an HIV test was conducted within 3 months after a potential HIV exposure and the result is negative, it is recommended that the patient gets re-tested again to have full confirmation of non-infection.

As long as there is no medical reason to stop taking the pill, you can be on it for years, whether to regulate your menstrual cycle, treat cramps or prevent pregnancy. The best part? You can stop taking the pill at any point if you decide you do want to get pregnant; there is no change in long-term fertility with the use of birth control pills.

However, after you receive your results you will be able to speak to a doctor for no additional cost about your situation and discuss next steps. For maximum accuracy, the test should be taken at least 45 days after exposure.
With STD tests, it is important to note the window period of the tests. This refers to the time between the time of exposure to the infection and the time when infection indicators can be successfully detected by the test. During the window period, the levels of indicators are still too low to be detected by the test, even if an infection is present.
The window period for the test performed by our partner laboratory is around 1 month. Hence, it is recommended that the test be taken at least 45 days after exposure in order to prevent a false-negative result, and ensure maximum accuracy.

Emergency contraception should not be used as regular birth control. Although there are no known health risks, regular use can result in increased side effects (like irregular bleeding).
If you find that you need emergency contraception more than 2 or 3 times a month, we recommend that you consider starting regular birth control which is much more effective (up to 99% effective when used as directed) compared to emergency contraception (ranges from 58%-94% effective, depending on timing).
While most people do not experience side effects from using emergency contraceptive pills, some do experience spotting or irregular bleeding about one week before and/or after your scheduled period. Other potential side effects include nausea*, vomiting*, headache, dizziness, breast soreness, or cramping for 1 to 2 days after taking emergency contraception.
*If you vomit within 2 hours of taking your emergency contraceptive, your body may not have absorbed the pill and you will need to purchase a new pill. In the case that this happens, please contact us immediately at customer.care@ease-healthcare.com or 9076 5845

You may want to consider taking emergency contraceptive if: - You had sex without a condom or if the condom breaks, slips, or falls off. - You had sex and have missed your combined hormonal contraceptives (pill, patch, or ring) for more 24 hours. - You had sex and are more than 3 hours late taking the progesterone-only pill.
Yes, all first time birth control users will have to sign up for a birth control teleconsultation as the doctor will need to understand your health history and preferences before prescribing a suitable brand of birth control pill/patch for you.
Some common side effects include headaches, nausea, spotting (light bleeding between periods), breast tenderness, and/or changes in your menstrual cycle (it might come early, late, or stop altogether). Good news is that they don’t affect everyone and they tend to go away in 2-3 months as your body gets adjusted to the hormones.
There are two main differences among different brands of pills.
1. Number of pills per pack:Some pills contain only 21 active pills. This means that for 1 week a month, you won’t take any pills and start your next pack after the 7 days break. Other brands provide 28 pills (24 active pills and 4 placebo pills) which means you will take 1 pill every day of the month.
2. Hormonal dosage: While all combination pills contain the hormones estrogen and progestin, they have different dosage levels. Specific dosage levels may suit you best depending on your health history and your preferences (e.g. if you want to skip your periods or not). We recommend first time users to sign up for a Birth Control Teleconsultation with one of our doctors as they will be able to help you find a brand that works for you.
While many STIs may remain asymptomatic - if left undetected and untreated - they can have serious long-term, and even life-threatening consequences. The sooner you are diagnosed, the sooner you can start treatment. Regular testing is also important for the safety and wellness of yourself and your partners.
You may sign up for an STD teleconsultation to discuss STD testing packages with one of our doctors or directly sign up for an at-home STD test.
Here are some of the common symptoms of STI / STDs, if they appear near your genitals, anus, or mouth:
Pain
Swelling
Bumps, sores, or rashes
Itching and/or burning
Pain or burning when you urinate
Vaginal discharge that has a different smell, color, or texture
Bleeding from your genitals (that is not your period)
However, note that many STI / STDs have no signs or symptoms (asymptomatic). You can transmit your infection to your sexual partners even if you're not experiencing any visible symptoms. Hence, it is important to use protection, such as a condom, during sex and get tested regularly. If you're unsure if what you're experiencing might be a symptom of an STI you may sign up for an STD teleconsultation to discuss them with one of our doctors or sign up for an
.
Yes. You can get an STI from both giving and receiving oral sex. STIs including HIV, syphilis, herpes, gonorrhea, HPV, trichomoniasis, and chlamydia, can be transmitted via oral sex. Certain STIs such as herpes can spread through skin-to-skin contact, while others can infect your throat through oral sex.
Yes. If this is your first purchase of birth control pills through Ease, you will need to attend a short video consultation with the doctor before they can write your prescription and before your medication can be dispensed. However, if you have purchased birth control pills using Ease and would like to renew your purchase, you can simply fill up a Birth Control Renewal form and we will arrange for your medication to be dispensed and dispatched!
The patch and the pill work similarly by releasing hormones to prevent pregnancy, or to regulate your hormones (with great benefits such as, lightening cramps, periods and managing acne). With perfect use (i.e. no missed patches, and patches are applied and changed correctly), the patch is up to 99% effective at preventing pregnancies. Unlike the pill, the frequency of use for the patch is different. While the pill comes in packs of 21 or 28 pills depending on the brand, the patch will come in a pack of 3, of which you apply once a week, for 3 weeks each month and have a patch-free week.
Just like birth control pills, the patch contains hormones. Your body will require some time to adjust to a change in hormone levels as your start using the patch.
During this time, you may experience some side effects such as headaches, nausea, bloating (water retention not fat gain), and breast tenderness. It's normal to experience some side effects, and they usually subside within 2-3 months of continual patch use. It is worth noting that not everyone experiences side effects, and that its severity varies from person to person.
If this is your first time considering any form of birth control, we'd recommend that you schedule a Birth Control Teleconsultation with our doctors as they can better advise you on the types of birth control, and which would be most suitable for you depending on unique lifestyle and health needs.
Birth control pills are taken regularly to prevent pregnancy, while emergency contraception is used as backup contraception to prevent pregnancy when taken after unprotected sex or when birth control fails. Emergency contraception should not be used as regular birth control. Although there are no known health risks, regular use can result in increased side effects (like irregular bleeding).

Yes. According to health regulations, you will need to attend a short video check-in appointment with our doctor before your prescription can be written and your medication dispensed. After you've attended the check-in appointment, your medication will then be dispensed and dispatched according to your chosen mode of delivery.
If you are unsure of which test package to go for, we recommend for you to sign up for an STI Teleconsultation where one of our doctors can advise you on the different test options, and which test package would be more suitable for you based on your healthcare needs!
For HIV Test (HIV) and Basic STI Test (Syphilis, Herpes II, HIV and Hepatitis B): Blood Sample
Essential (Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, HIV and Syphilis) and Full STI Test (Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Herpes II and HIV): Blood Sample and Vaginal Swab (females) or Urine Sample (males)
Blood samples are collected by our licensed phlebotomist at a location of your choice (either at home or with a partner clinic) to avoid a painful prick draw! — the entire procedure takes up to 10 minutes. Vaginal swabs and urine samples are self-obtained and will be picked up when they are ready to be collected, to be sent to the lab for testing.
Studies show that self-obtained vaginal swabs are as accurate as clinician-collected cervical specimens in the diagnosis of chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Our partner laboratory also regularly uses self-obtained vaginal swabs for these tests and from their experience, the results are as accurate as if they were taken at a clinic by a doctor.
Yes, it is important to take note of the window period of STI testing. This refers to the time period between the time of exposure to the infection and the time when infection indicators can be successfully detected by the test. For maximum accuracy, our at-home STI tests should be taken at least 45 days after exposure.
This is a teleconsultation that lasts up to 10 minutes. You will be able to discuss your symptoms or clarify any concerns and/or questions you may have regarding the symptoms you are experiencing, as well as seek advice on how to prevent the condition from occuring again in the future. If appropriate, our doctors will be able to prescribe your treatment.
You can sign up here!

Absolutely! Telemedicine is safe and effective, as long as doctors have accurate, current information about your case (and this applies to both telemedicine and in-person visits). This is why it is important that you answer questions truthfully, accurately, and completely in the health assessment form, and your consultation. Furthermore, all doctors on our platform have completed the Singapore Ministry of Health's telemedicine e-learning course and are trained to deliver medical advice and prescribe treatments through telemedicine.
